Rosk’n Roll is a waste management company operating in the western and eastern parts of County Uusimaa in Finland. Faced with a paradigm shift in their industry, Rosk’n Roll partnered with Trailmaker to adapt to a new economic model.
The waste management industry has been transitioning towards a circular economy for over a decade. The shift is a critical, but complex, process that requires a new way of thinking and new ways of working. Rosk’nRoll’s CEO Vesa Heikkonen knows this well.
”Our business has changed from waste disposal to managing materials in the circular economy. Now it’s all about cooperation through wider networks of partners.”
As the move towards a new economy continues, the waste management business is becoming more market driven, says Heikkonen. The need for recycled raw materials in manufacturing is growing.
”Our focus is on keeping raw materials in the material cycle.”
According to Heikkonen, unless the shift to a fully circular economy is successful, acquiring raw materials for manufacturing will become more difficult in the following decades and centuries. Waste management has a big part to play.
Thriving in a changing environment requires the ability to adapt as quickly as possible. Rosk’n Roll realized this and sought out Trailmaker’s help to manage its strategic change.
“For us it was key to be able to do our part in the circular supply chain as well as possible, while also showing our partners that we see the big picture and work towards it”, Heikkonen says.
As with any strategic change, the biggest challenge was turning the plan into reality. With help from Trailmaker, Rosk’nRoll was able to execute the change on schedule. A major part of it was recognizing what it took to succeed.
“Execution power is crucial. For us it meant being able to manage and lead our workforce, to develop the required capabilities, and to keep up the motivation and enthusiasm to change. And using the right metrics to measure it all”, Heikkonen tells us.
Heikkonen thanks Trailmaker for their ability to catalyze the change.
“Working with Trailmaker helped us form a shared vision among the key people. They also helped us recognize what resources and capabilities we would need – and how to get things done quickly.”
