Trailmaker customer: Rosk’n Roll transforms their strategy to thrive in the circular economy

Rosk’n Roll is a waste managementcompany operating in the western and eastern parts of County Uusimaa inFinland. Faced with a paradigm shift in their industry, Rosk’n Roll partneredwith Trailmaker to adapt to a new economic model.

The waste management industry has been transitioningtowards a circular economy for over a decade. The shift is a critical, butcomplex, process that requires a new way of thinking and new ways of working. Rosk’nRoll’s CEO Vesa Heikkonen knows this well.

”Our business has changed from wastedisposal to managing materials in the circular economy. Now it’s all aboutcooperation through wider networks of partners.”

As the move towards a new economy continues, the waste management business is becoming more market driven, says Heikkonen. Theneed for recycled raw materials in manufacturing is growing.

”Our focus is on keeping raw materials inthe material cycle.”

According to Heikkonen, unless the shift toa fully circular economy is successful, acquiring raw materials formanufacturing will become more difficult in the following decades andcenturies. Waste management has a big part to play.

Trailmaker helped Rosk’n Roll make the necessary change

Thriving in a changing environment requiresthe ability to adapt as quickly as possible. Rosk’n Roll realized this andsought out Trailmaker’s help to manage its strategic change.

“For us it was key to be able to do ourpart in the circular supply chain as well as possible, while also showing ourpartners that we see the big picture and work towards it”, Heikkonen says.

As with any strategic change, the biggestchallenge was turning the plan into reality. With help from Trailmaker, Rosk’nRoll was able to execute the change on schedule. A major part of it was recognizingwhat it took to succeed.

“Execution power is crucial. For us itmeant being able to manage and lead our workforce, to develop the requiredcapabilities, and to keep up the motivation and enthusiasm to change. And usingthe right metrics to measure it all”, Heikkonen tells us.

Heikkonen thanks Trailmaker for theirability to catalyze the change.

“Working with Trailmaker helped us form ashared vision among the key people. They also helped us recognize whatresources and capabilities we would need – and how to get things done quickly.”
