Trailmaker customer: HKFoods strengthens new growth strategy focused on poultry products and ready-made food

HKFoods refocuses its operations in Finland with a new strategy, supported by Trailmaker’s expertise in execution power. The partnership has brought the company’s management together to make critical decisions and align on their strategic goals, says HKFoods CEO Juha Ruohola.

HKFoods, a leading food producer headquartered in Turku, has undergone significant structural changes over thepast two years, including divestments that have allowed the company to refocusits operations. With a new strategy centred on Finland, the HK brand aims toleverage its strong market position to meet the growing demand for poultry products and ready-made products.

"Our strategy is focused on Finland," says Juha Ruohola, CEO of HKFoods. "We have a strong market position, and consumers want more poultry and ready-made products. We have seen major growth, especially in poultry products and ready-made meals, and sales and profitability have increased."

"The most critical thing is to get the top management involved and committed to the new strategy, to have a common view. Execution power is important because otherwise, the plans are just paper and will not mean anything.”

“Our challenge is moving from divestment mode to growth mode. It’s critical to shift the organisation mindset,” Ruohola explains.

HKFoods brought in Trailmaker to help align its top management and ensure commitment to executing the strategy.

"Trailmaker’s framework led usto a practical commitment process. It forced us to make many decisions with the top team," Ruohola notes.

"I'm convinced that we got the commitment for those strategical projects, and that's a very good start for the execution of the strategy. That was fully positive," Ruohola says of the process with Trailmaker.
